ABL pressure gradient improvement
Context
The ABL model can be driven by the atmospheric horizontal pressure gradient (HPG) computed from atmospheric reanalysis such as ERA5. To compute this HPG term, we use temperature and humidity fields from the reanalysis. However, the temperature and humidity computed by the ABL model can diverge from the reanalysis ones, and hence the associated HPG term.
Proposal
We propose here to compute the HPG anomaly induced by ABL temperature & humidity differences compared to the reanalysis, and to apply it as an additional term to the HPG term computed from the reanalysis. This way, the ABL model should be able to represent the air-sea coupling associated with HPG anomalies produced by SST gradients.
